SMATHematics Bartow Project Participants

This summer, 22 Bartow County teachers from several different elementary schools participated in a week long SMATHematics Workshop that provided elementary teachers with opportunities to participate in activities designed to rekindle curiosity and build understanding of math and science. As part of a collaborative effort of Kennesaw State University and the Bartow County Schools, the workshop focused on unusual and counterintuitive events in our world that naturally arouse interest and promote active investigation. During the week, teachers also developed lessons that will provide opportunities for their students to actively investigate the questions and problems that interest them. Teachers will implement these and other inquiry-based, integrated science lessons during the course of the school year. It is hoped that though these collaborative explorations, both students and teachers will grow in their understanding and appreciation for integrated inquiry.
