The Curiosity Creates Comprehension Project

|
Welcome to the Curiosity Creates Comprehension Project, a collaborative effort of Kennesaw State University and the Cobb County Schools. This project creates unique opportunities for elementary teachers to integrate science, mathematics and reading through activities that are designed to rekindle curiosity and build understanding. The project focuses on unusual and counterintuitive events in our world that naturally arouse interest and promote active investigation. Through the process of guided-inquiry, the lessons developed will provide an opportunity for our students to actively investigate the questions and problems that concern them. By giving kids time to imagine, think, and explore, we can build both their comprehension and appreciation of the world around us. Specifically, the project will provide teachers with key science content, necessary materials, and current "best-practice" teaching strategies that emphasize a hands-on, integrated approach to teaching and learning. Through a week-long teacher workshop and ongoing support and staff development, teachers will develop and implement inquiry-based, integrated science lessons that are experiential in nature and that reflect Georgia Quality Core Curriculum objectives.
