The Elementary State Science Olympiad Kennesaw State University, May 17th, 2008
|
|

Welcome to the official site of the Georgia Elementary Science Olympiad. For the 7th consecutive year, Kennesaw State University was proud to host the Elementary (grades 3-6) Science Olympiad Invitational State Tournament. The tournament was held on Saturday, May 17th on the KSU campus. This year, Mount Bethel Elementary from Cobb County won our friendly state competition, followed closely by Kedron and Braelinn Elementary who finished second and third respectively. This year's event was highlighted by performances from Ron Anglin, from the Physics Juggler, and the award winning Kell High School Robotics Team. More importantly, the the day was, once again, a wonderful demonstration of students' collaborating and working together to solve a wide range of scientific problems.

2008 Georgia Science Olympiad Champs
For those of you who are not familiar with the Elementary Science Olympiad
(ESO), it is an inquiry-based, hands-on program that covers earth, life, and
physical science topics. It also
incorporates both engineering and technological principles in a meaningful and
relevant manner. In addition, the
Science Olympiad provides our students with a variety of highly engaging
activities that naturally generate interest, enthusiasm, and passion for
scientific exploration. We encourage you and your school to form an
Olympiad team and enter this friendly competition.

The Science Olympiad is a collaborative
team activity and each of the 18 events is designed for two children working as
a dynamic team. Each team may
include up to 18 children and we encourage you to involve as many students from
your school as possible.
A list of this year's 2009 registration materials will be available by clicking on the
link below in the fall of 2008. The
list of participating schools and specific event day information for the 2009
event will be given after registration closes in February of next year (you can see last
year's participants and information). The detailed event day schedule will
be provided to all coaches 6 weeks before the competition. We encourage
your students to develop an interest and expertise in as many events as
possible. A $50.00
registration fee per team is required. If you need additional information
or have any questions you can contact Dr. Tom Brown who is the tournament
director.
