Tiger
Flight Friday

As the grand finale for our summer institutes, the Tiger Flight
Foundation provided an amazing day of aeronautic exploration where teachers
experienced firsthand how a fascination for flying can be harnessed to build
student comprehension of key science concepts.

During this exciting day, the Tiger Flight Formation Flight Team provided plane and helicopter rides for teachers so they could experience the joy and thrill of flying as they learned about the science of flight from their top notch pilots. This dynamic team included four active pilots and two formation flight coaches. Each are members of both the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Young Eagle Program - a program headed by Harrison Ford to introduce kids to the joys and wonders of flying. The educational director of Tiger Flight is Lt. Col. David Wright who also serves as the director of the Etowah GYSTC and is a lead teacher in our Northwest MSP Project. When teachers weren't airborne, they were exploring the Tiger Flight Museum and participating in a series of mini-workshops that showed them how the physics of flight can be used to engage and interest kids in a wide range science explorations. The day finished up with an excellent banquet at the Bella Roma restaurant. All is all, it was quite the adventure.

The Tiger Flight hanger is located at the Richard B. Russell Airport in Rome Georgia. For additional information on Tiger Flight and the Richard B. Russell Airport check out the links below.
